A William Spratling silver pitcher with a flared rim above a straight neck, raised shoulder and tapering, hand-hammered body, having a carved wood handle with a ring of ten dots applied to the body around the lower terminus, the top of the handle resembling a stylized eagle head, marked Spratling / Made In Mexico / Spratling / Silver on the underside; ht. 6.5 in., silver wt. (including wood handle) 18.85ozt (586.5g). William Spratling (American, 1900-1967) established his shop in 1931 in the Taxco area of Mexico and is best known for his work with the native silversmiths there circa 1940, and for reviving local interest in the art of native silver. Condition: Some light scratches.
