The Flushing Institute, later named St. Paul's Academy, was founded in 1828 by William Augustus Muhlenberg. Wharton, the artist of this view, worked as an architect in New York City in the early 1830s, later moving to New Orleans where he worked on the Custom House. This early separately-issued lithograph was published by the short-lived partnership of George Endicott and Moses Sweet. There is no record of this print in Peters, America on Stone .
