Complete and fine set from a Latin edition of Blaeu's famous Atlas Maior 1662 ff. With the new double hemisphere world map with Insular California by Joan B.: "It is not directly taken from the large original of 1648 but is copied from one of his competitor's reductions, perhaps that by Nicolaas Visscher. The engraving and elegance of decoration are all of the highest standard" (Shirley; with wrong illustration plate 315, q.v. his corrigenda). The maps of the continents with the name 'Guiljelmo Blaeuw', with side borders of costumed figures and top frieze of town plans. - Original colouring. Some browning and spotting, shine through of text on verso, the world, Africa and Europe stronger affected. Africa with some creasing and folds at centerfold, map of the world with slight crease mark at centerfold; America: somewhat toned resp. with some ink smudging.
