The consignor has independently obtained a letter of authenticity from PSA that will accompany the lot. "I, George Washington, do solemnly swear that I will faithfully execute the office of President of the United States; and will, to the best of my ability, preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States." Under the headline "Oath of Office, administered to the President of the United States," Fenno's "national paper" gives a brief overview of the "solemn ceremony" taking place for just the second time. The oath was administered by Associate Justice William Cushing on March 4.
