W. A. BETTESWORTH The Walkers of Southgate: a famous brotherhood of cricketers London: Methuen, 1900. 8vo., 17 plates (some spotting), original green cloth gilt (spine rubbed, inner hinges split). Provenance : Christopher Heseltine (signature on front pastedown). WITH A 1¼P. AUTOGRAPH LETTER FROM V. EDWARD WALKER the dedicatee, dated Arnos Grove, Southgate, 19 April [19]04, to an unidentified correspondent, regarding the unreliability of Oxford records ("we always had trouble with Oxford scoring - not taking our Scorer"); and a second letter from Bettesworth, dated the Field , London E.C.4, 19 September 1927, to "Dear Gaston," thanking him for various letters and cuttings, though he is unable to quote from them, and adding as a post-script: "I am greatly amused at your 13 consecutive wides ... to think that you are quite a respectable member of society!"
