Title with woodcut border, 140 (including one repetition) woodcut illustrations, 3 and 6 line initials, Giunta's device on verso of last leaf. (Some light browning.) 16th-century Italian paneled calf, covers decorated in blind and gilt, stabholes and remains of four pairs of silk ties; spine with 18th-century English gilt tooling (covers detached). Provenance : Henry Howard (1655-1701) 7th Duke of Norfolk (gifted to): The Royal Society (library inkstamp recording the gift on title-page, gilt-stamped arms foot of spine); W. Gedney Beatty (1869-1941), American architect (gifted to): The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, Department of Prints (bookplate recording the bequest, cancelled). Second Giocondo edition. Including De architectura and De aquaductibus paginated independently, but not issued separately. The woodcuts in this edition are reduced copies of those in the Venice, first illustrated edition, of 1511, to which are added four new subjects.
