Contemporary limp vellum, spine titled in manuscript, edges purple (lacking ties, short split across spine, light soiling). Provenance : early inscription deleted from title) -- W. Gedney Beatty (1869-1941, American architect; gifted to:) -- The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, Department of Prints (bookplate recording the bequest, cancelled). Second Giocondo edition. The woodcuts in this edition are reduced copies of those in the Venice, first illustrated edition, of 1511, to which are added four new subjects.
