VITAL, Hayyim (Safed; 1542-1620). Peri Ets Chayyim (Branch 1, Sha'ar ha-Kavvanot , only the parts on Shabbat and festivals, followed by two further works of Lurianic Kabbalah). MANUSCRIPT ON PAPER [Central or Eastern Europe, 17th-18th century] 4 o (230 x 170 mm). On various sizes of paper. [1] + 262 + 4 + 7 leaves (imperfect at the beginning, see contents). Partial old Hebrew and modern lead pencil foliations. Brown ink. Ashkenazic semi-cursive script. Probably by the same scribe who copied Neubauer nos. 58, 65, 75, 88, 100 and 103 (lots 141, 146, 134, 73, 110 and 140). With printed architectural border in the style of the plates used by the Amsterdam printer Joseph Athias, pasted onto the paper to decorate the title on fol. [1]r. (Text area browned as a result of mild ink corrosion, not affecting legibility, slightly scuffed, otherwise good condition.) Modern blind- and gold-tooled blue morocco, two modern paper flyleaves at back and front, old red stained edges. CONTENTS: I. Fol. [1]r: title of Peri Ets Chayyim . Fols. 1r-7v: blank. Fols. 8r-260v: text Peri Ets Chayyim . A different redaction from the printed editions. Seven folios missing at the beginning. Fols. [261]r-[262]v: blank. II. Fols. 263r-[264]r: Sod Etsba Elokim by Samson Ostropolier (martyred in 1648). Fols. 264v-266v: blank. III. Fols. 267r-[272]r: Sod ha-Margala from Ma'amar Olam Katan from the school of Israel Saruk (c. 1600). Fols. [272]v-[273]v: blank. PROVENANCE: Daniel Itzig (stamped).
