New edition by Anna Roemers -- 10 new emblems were added to the 183 etchings by Jansz in the two editions of 1614. J. Cats and J. van den Vondel contributed laudatory poems. Visscher, poet and moralist of the early Dutch Renaissance, led the movement for the purification and standardization of the Dutch language. Zinne-Poppen , a collection of short moral pieces, and Brabbeling , his only volume of poetry, are his principal works. Brabbeling was first published in 1612 without the author's knowledge. It contains mostly love poems but also allusions to the social, political and domestic life of Holland.
