Collection of silver gelatin photographs including approximately 130 8 by 10 inches (a few of which are color), 13 5 by 7 inches, 8 4 by 5 inches, 6 negatives and a number of contact prints, [1965-66], generally excellent condition although a few images with wear. This archive of photographs was collected by Darryl G. Winters, a combat cameraman in the United States Air Force 600th Photo Squadron stationed in Vietnam who was the first Air Force photographer killed in action in Vietnam. Included are images of air combat, various airplanes in flight, combat photographers including Winters and their rigs, etc. The lot also includes 5 medals awarded to Winters: The Purple Heart, 2 Air Medals, Bronze Star, and Armed Forces Expeditionary Service Medal (all in original boxes); plus paperwork regarding Winters's death and the Darryl G. Winters Award, given annually to the most outstanding member of the Aerospace Audiovisual Services (AAVS).
