Publisher's purple cloth, stamped pictorially in gilt with an image of the tethered balloon. 7 3/4 inches (19.5 cm), Frontispiece, title leaf, 345 pp., plus 12 pp. ads at rear. Spine faded some light wear to head and toe of spine and corners of boards, overall an unusually attractive copy. First edition in English of Jules Verne's first book. In addition, this is the first of his works to appear in the English language; the New York edition precedes the English by a year.
