[ Bound with: ] -- VALTURIUS, Roberto (1405-1475). De re Militari libri XII . Paris: Christian Wechel, 1534. 2 works in one volume, 2° (302 x 205mm). Roman and Greek types. First work with Wechel's Pegasus device on title and final verso, 122 full-page woodcuts (including one repeated three times), one half-page cut, numerous text diagrams; second work with Wechel's tree device on title and another version of the device on final leaf, 85 woodcut illustrations, many full-page, historiated woodcut initials. (Titles and final leaves lightly soiled, occasional light marginal waterstaining to a few leaves, small marginal clean tear to 2B6 and repair to M1.) 18th-century tree calf, gilt spine divided in 6 compartments, red edges, gilt turn-ins and marbled endpapers, modern slipcase (extremities lightly rubbed). Provenance : Fossudi? Cupulo (ownership inscription on title) -- erased ownership inscription on title dated 1727 -- Joseph Hammonilla (ownerhisp inscription on verso of title) -- early annotations to second work. FINE COPIES WITH NUMEROUS LARGE WOODCUTS of two famous military treatises, the first works to be published by Christian Wechel in France.
