Epitome trium terrae partium, Asiae, Africae et Europae compendiariam locorum descriptionem continens. Zurich: Christoph Frosch[auer], September 1534. * BOUND WITH: POSTEL, GUILLAUME. De orbis terrae concordia libri quatuor, multigua eruditione ac pietate referti. [Basel: Johann Oporinus, 1544]. 2 works in one volume. A6 Aa6 Bb-Cc4 B-Z6 &6 (-Aa1-Cc4, blank &6); [alpha]4 a-2N6 2O8 Aa-Bb6 Cc4 (-u2). Old yapp-edged vellum. First work lacking the double-page woodcut map as often, and 3 preliminary gatherings, triangular section lacking from center of title; second work title with tape stain down gutter and early ink inscription, lacking one text leaf. Very occasional small waterstains and toning, binding worn and discolored. Both works contain references to America. Vadian's Epitome "skilfully sought to place the tools of geography in the hands of laymen" (McLean, The Cosmographia of Sebastian Münster, p 112). Sabin calls for 14 preliminary leaves in the first work that are not present here, however many institutional copies appear not to have them either. Sabin 98279.
