Levels mid-shoulder (2) All except Taylor 1945 identified from neck tags or stickers only. Remains of wax capsules. Levels all top-shoulder or better except Taylor 1945
Above 12 bottles per lot
A REMARKABLE AND ECLECTIC RANGE OF FINE WINES FROM A PRIVATE CELLAR INCLUDING MATURE PORT, QUALITY BORDEAUX, EXCEPTIONAL BURGUNDY, VINTAGE COGNACS AND RARE WHISKIES Recently removed by Christie's Wine Department staff from an excellent private cellar in the UK following long-term ownership by the vendor. Most of the wines were purchased when young and have remained in the same underground home cellar since that time. Now lying EHD. Intelligent (or 'savvy' if you prefer?) wine collectors almost inevitably purchase more wine than they are likely to consume - and we as auctioneers, and you as consumers, should sometimes be grateful for that fact. It means that from time to time, we have the opportunity to offer, as represented here in lots 1 to 261, a magnificent and wide-ranging collection of wines that allows bidders to fill the gaps in their own collections - whether it be for a full dozen of the legendary Taylor 1945 offered in lot 3 or multiple case lots of a future star such as Chateau Latour 2005 in lots 179-183. The owner of these lots has had a long-term love of the vine and can look back with some satisfaction and relate many amusing stories that took place through his connection with the purchase, consumption and appreciation of 'decent port and wine' - culminating in the realisation that he now prefers to drink younger vintages and is somewhat overstocked with mature wines, each of which he has the good fortune to enjoy on numerous occasions. So, time to sell a few cases. From the range of excellent mature Vintage Port, the eclectic range of Claret from 1909 to 2005 and a sprinkling of mature DRC's and other admirable Burgundies, through to enticing mature Champagnes and even a final 'digestif' of fine old Cognac and Whiskies - it should be clear that this is part of the collection of someone who has loved (and continues to love) life and the celebration of the good things in it that we all hold dear. David Elswood International Head of Wine Department Lying in Weybridge, Surrey (EHD) Lots marked ?? are offered duty-paid, but available in bond Unknown Shipper--Vintage 1920 (2) Cockburn--Vintage 1927 (4) Tuke Holdsworth--Vintage 1927 One labelled (3) Unknown Shipper--Believed Vintage 1927 (1) Taylor--Vintage 1945 Labelled.
