RARE NINETEENTH CENTURY CIGARS Unique Collection of Nineteenth Century Cigars in Oak Cabinet The 83 cigars contained in this cabinet were purchased during the 1850s by Walther Francis, the 5th Duke of Buccleuch and 6th Duke of Queensberry (1806-1884). Little is known about the 5th Duke's cigar-smoking habits apart from the fact that he was a man of great discernment. A cigar case to hold two small cigars, given to him by his wife, Charlotte Anne Thynne from Longleat, still survives. The cigars offered here comprise the following: Murray--1857. 5 in. 36 Gauge, Figuarado All cigars with some wrapper damaged (19) Vegueros--1858. 4½ in. 34 Gauge, Figuarado (42) Regalia--1856. 3 in. 26 Gauge, Figuarado (22) All believed to be fine Cuban Havanas The cabinet itself, made by 'Hudson the Tobacconist - Importer of Foreign Snuffs and Tobaccos' is believed to post-date the actual cigars by some 50 years, being early Twentieth Century Above 83 cigars per lot
