The first appearance of the Romain du Roi, a major typographic innovation and the first step away from old-style typefaces. Grandjean cut the face, following the drawings prepared by Louis XIV's committee under Nicolas Jaugeon. Ultimately, the faces of Fournier and Didot derive from this typeface. C
