Title: Typed letter signed by Aaron Copland Author: Copland, Aaron (1900-1990) Place: Ossining, NY Publisher: Date: December 24, 1959 Description: 1-page typed letter, signed by Copland to a member of the NAACC on his Shady Lane Farm letterhead, dated December 24, 1959. 8x6". Aaron Copland (born Aaron Cohen), American composer, conductor, author and an important contributor to the film score genre including his score for Steinbeck's The Red Pony. Letter reads: "Dear Edna, It is good of you to be thinking of me in relation to the plan of the NAACC. I wish I could be optimistic about my ability to take part. My schedule this winter, however, is so tight that it is not possible for me to consider coming down to Philadelphia in relation to a film afternoon. I seem to be occupied with a three-pronged career as composer, conductor and book-writer, which just about fills the days. Incidentally, aside from documentary films, you may have trouble in getting to show other examples of my film music. Did you know that Martha Graham made a film version of Appalachian Spring? Mr. David Adams at Boosey and Hawkes, New York office, could tell you where that one might be acquired...Cordially yours, Aaron Copland." Lot Amendments Condition: Original fold, slight bend to left edge, else near fine. Item number: 161422
