Typed Letter Signed as Public Relations Officer, Ford Motor Company England Author: Buckmaster, M. J. Place: Dagenham, England Publisher: Date: March 26, 1954 Description: 1 page. Typed letter signed on Ford Motor Company Ltd. stationery. William Grover-Williams was an auto racing champion winning the French Grand Prix in 1928 and 1929. He married a French woman and lived in France until the Nazi invasion in 1940. Buckmaster, a Ford executive, headed the British Special Operations Executives French section, sent Grover-Williams to Paris to work with Robert Benoist (1927 Grand Prix winner) to form sabotage cells and reception committees for agents who parachuted behind the lines. Both men were arrested by the Gestapo and subsequently executed. Buckmaster was decorated by the British, French, and American governments. Letters by him about his wartime work are rare. Lot Amendments Condition: Hole punched in upper left corner not affecting text; near fine. Lots sold without reserve are sold “as Is” and are not returnable under any circumstances.
