TWO VERY FINE CARVED AGATE SNUFF BOTTLES19th century
The first, of flattened ovoid form deftly carved with a continuous scene of a bat and a pair of archaistic chilong amidst swirling clouds, the mythical creatures expertly carved and highlighted with dark-chocolate brown tone, stem shaped stopper with ivory spoon, 4.3cm (1 6/8in) high; and the second, of rounded body surmounted by a cylindrical neck, carved on one side with a monkey leaning against rockwork and holding a lingzhi fungus, the other side depicting a smaller monkey amongst mountain landscape, an agate stopper and ivory spoon, 4.5cm (1 3/4in) high.
