TWO LOUIS XIV EBONY AND BRASS AND PEWTER-INLAID BROWN TORTOISESHELL COFFRES DE TOILETTE (MARIAGE) by André-Charles Boulle , mounted in gilt-bronze and inlaid with stained-horn in première and contre-partie with scrolling foliate arabesques, each with domed hinged top centred by a bearded-mask carrying-handle with lambrequin head-dress and scrolled acanthus-spray flanked by panelled foliate-cast bands terminating in a vine-bound satyr-mask to the front and lion-mask to the reverse, the plaitted female-mask escutcheon flanked by acanthus and bell-husk scrolls, one enclosing a claret silk-velvet lined interior with gold-thread border and hinged fall-front, the other with blue silk-lined interior applied with metal-thread trellis, the sides with further carrying-handles headed by plaitted nymphs and with panelled rosette angle-clasps, the stand with concave spreading frieze inlaid with husk and foliate-trails and with acanthus lambrequin-bound angles and berried foliate collar, above a shaped frieze drawer with scrolling foliate entrelac handle centred by an oak-wreathed female-mask, on gadrooned foliate-trailed square tapering legs, the back inlaid with a foliate arabesque panel within a stiff-leaf repeating border, the concave-fronted undertier centred by a domed and gadrooned fruiting finial, on foliate-mounted turned tapering toupie feet, both with handwritten label 27320 $ CHNNL , restorations The contre-partie coffre : 28in.
