MEIJI PERIOD (19TH CENTURY)
Two inlaid-bronze vases and a bronze incense burner ( koro ) with cover Meiji period (19th century) The first vase of tapering form with high shoulders rising to a stepped, short-waisted neck with everted rim, stepped base with three bracket feet, decorated in inlaid gold, silver and shakudo , with cranes standing in shallow water, The second vase of gourd form above a raised foot, decorated in copper and gilt inlay with a branch of blooming cherry blossoms; The kidney-shaped koro with brown patination overall, cast in relief and inlaid in silver, copper and gilt with panels of confronting tigers, dragons and kirin cast in high relief amongst flames and cloud scrolls, flanked on both sides with stylized handles and with four feet in the shape of stylized clouds, the cover surmounted by a recumbent kirin cast in high relief with further silver cloud-scroll inlay 8¼in.
