Beschreibung:

one published by Anthony after Brady, the other an outdoor albumen mounted on thin paper stock. Scion of a wealthy New York family and erstwhile political, Wadsworth joined the army motivated by patriotism and was promoted to Brigadier General in August 1861 serving throughout 1862 in mostly rear area commands. At Gettysburg, Wadsworth commanded the 1st Division, 1st Corps on the tumultuous first day that witnessed the death of Reynolds and the near annihilation of the corps. Wadworth and other survivors must be credited with buying time that allowed the rest of the army to join the battle. Wadsworth's rank of Major General was posthumous as he was mortally wounded at the Wilderness and died on May 8, 1864 in a Confederate field hospital. Condition:Both views near VG, the cdv having trimmed right border, the albumen soiled with a tear in the left margin.
