Two antique French boxes
comprising a 19th century bird's eye marple veneered jewellery box, sarcophagus form 8½ x 6in. (21.5 x 15.25cm.); a late 19th century square black lacquered papier-mache box with painted and mother of pearl inlay of a bird and butterfly above roses, 7½in. (19cm.) square; together with an Eastern white metal box, of domed form with hinged cover and bands of foliate repoussé decoration, 8in. (20.25cm.) long. (3)
Condition:
- Maple box: Old shrinkage cracks and minor veneer losses to lid. Ring handle is missing. Liner possibly missing from beneath lid. No key.
- Papier-mache: Some scratching, wear and flaking from lacquer, some edge wear. Very old repair to front right corner of lid.
- White metal: Good condition.
