TRUMAN, Harry S. Photograph signed ("Harry S. Truman"), as President, CO-SIGNED BY EIGHT SUPREME COURT JUSTICES AND FOUR CABINET OFFICIALS, n.d. [ca. October 1945]. Black and white photograph (13 7/8 x 11 in.), laid down on card, matted, with signatures on the matt .
TRUMAN, Harry S. Photograph signed ("Harry S. Truman"), as President, CO-SIGNED BY EIGHT SUPREME COURT JUSTICES AND FOUR CABINET OFFICIALS, n.d. [ca. October 1945]. Black and white photograph (13 7/8 x 11 in.), laid down on card, matted, with signatures on the matt . TRUMAN ON THE WHITE HOUSE STEPS WITH EIGHT MEMBERS OF THE SUPREME COURT, most likely taken in the summer or fall before the fall 1945 term, as Chief Justice Harlan Fiske Stone (1872-1946), standing to Truman's right, died in April of the following year. Others in the photo are Justices Hugo Black (1886-1971), Felix Frankfurter (1882-1965), Stanley Reed (1884-1980), Harold Burton (1888-1964), Wiley Rutledge (1894-1949), Frank Murphy (1890-1949), and William O. Douglas (1898-1980). The only member of the Court not present is Justice Robert Jackson Truman's Attorney General, Thomas C. Clark (1889-1977), is present, along with Solicitor General J. Howard McGrath (1903-1966), Charles Elmer Crosley, and the Court Crier, Thomas Waggaman, the man who called the Court to order from 1938 to 1952. Tom Clark joined the Court himself in 1949, and McGrath assumed his post as Attorney General.
