(8vo) 21.5x13 cm (8½x5") period full mottled calf, spines gilt, red morocco labels lettered in gilt, all edges gilt. First Edition with these illustrations. A superbly illustrated collection, the plates by Marillier, Martini, Monnet and Moreau engraved by Baquoy, Châtelain, Deny, Dambrun, Lorieux, Patas, Vidal and Elisabeth Thiébaut. The plate at page 122 in the second volume depicting the flight from the monkeys in Candide is in the 'decouverte' state, with the two young women unclothed. Brunet V 1363; Cohen-de Ricci p.1038; Ray French 35. Lot Amendments Condition: Bindings lightly edge worn, spine ends chipped, front cover detached on Volume 1; some light foxing; very good.
