View of the Plumas House Hotel, with people and horses gathered outside. The Plumas House was built in 1853, burned in 1866 and rebuilt, then significantly expanded and improved in 1873. It stood as a beacon in mountain accommodations until burning to the ground in 1923. A metal sign provided by the State of California currently marks the location of the Plumas House Hotel, now the Dame Shirley Plaza. Photographer H.Brince was active in Susanville, circa 1877 to 1880. Brince's rural studio was used to photograph emigrants traveling the Lassen trail. H.
