Tinted Rhinehart Photograph of Red Cloud,

Schätzpreis
n. a.
Zuschlagspreis:
1.840 $
Beschreibung:

Rinehart's best image of this noted Sioux Chief, dressed in traditional buckskin decorated with bead work and fur trim, single eagle feather in hair, and holding a catlinite pipe and beaded pipe bag across lap. Mounted on original card stock, and titled along left margin in negative Chief Red Cloud, 11.75" x 15.75". The clothing worn by Red Cloud was worn by other Native Americans that Rinehart photographed at the Trans-Mississippi and International Exposition in Omaha, in 1898. Red Cloud was an Oglala Dakota chief. During his eventful life he served as a political and military leader of his people. His military exploits in defiance of American Western advancement first gained him his reputation. Then, like many other Indian leaders, Red Cloud realized the futility of opposition through war and attempted to work as an intermediary between the U.S. government and his own people. This approach later in life made him an effective force with both groups. Condition: Trimmed and toned, still VG-.
