Three: Warrant Officer Class 2 E. W. Yorke, 2nd Battalion Royal Warwickshire Regiment, who died of wounds, France, 30 August 1915 1914 Star, with clasp (8990 Sjt., 1/R. War. R.); British War and Victory Medals (W.O. Cl. 2, R. War. R.) mounted for wear; Memorial Plaque (Edward Walter Yorke) extremely fine (lot) £340-380 Footnote Serjeant Edward Walter Yorke, 1st Battalion Royal Warwickshire Regiment entered the France/Flanders theatre of war on 4 October 1914. As a Company Serjeant-Major in the 2nd Battalion, he died of wounds on 30 August 1915, aged 32 years. He was buried in the Sailly-Labourse Communal Cemetery. He was the husband of Mrs E. Yorke, of 9 Leopold Street, Birmingham. With two Royal Warwickshire Regiment Prize Medals for Boxing, both in silver and gold, one inscribed, ‘Corpl. E. Yorke, 1st Middle Weight Royal Warwickshire Regiment Oct. 1905; the other, ‘2nd Bn. Royal Warwickshire Regt. 1914’ ‘ Sgt. Yorke 1st Middle Weight’; with photographs (7) of his headstone and the cemetery; with a leather folder and leather purse. Also with copied m.i.c.
