Three: Squadron Leader R. L. T. Polgreen, Royal Air Force, who flew Sunderlands with 205 Squadron during the Malayan and Korean conflicts, before flying Canberras during the Cold War General Service 1918-62, 1 clasp, Malaya, G.VI.R. (Fg. Off. R. L. T. Polgreen. R.A.F.); Korea 1950-53, 1st issue (Fg. Off. R. L. T. Polgreen. R.A.F.) rank officially corrected on last; U.N. Korea 1950-54, unnamed as issued, mounted for display, minor edge nicks, generally very fine or better (3) £500-£600 Footnote Richard Lennox Trevelan Polgreen graduated from R.A.F. Cranwell in August 1951, and was commissioned Pilot Officer in the Royal Air Force. He advanced to Flying Officer in August the following year, and was posted as a Pilot to 205 Squadron (Sunderlands) at Seletar, Singapore in January 1953. The Squadron operated during the Malaya campaign, and had a detachment at Iwakuni, Japan, patrolling the Korean coastline during the Korean War. Polgreen advanced to Flight Lieutenant in January 1954, and was posted to 213 Squadron at Alhorn, Germany in April 1956. The latter was newly re-formed and equipped with the new Canberra bombers which were capable of nuclear strikes. Polgreen spent two years flying these aircraft during the Cold War. He advanced to Squadron Leader in January 1961, and subsequently served as Commanding Officer of R.A.F. Masirah, Oman. Polgreen retired ‘medically unfit’ in October 1966. In later life Polgreen resided at ‘Riverlea’, Westfield Road, Lymington, Hampshire. He died in September 1984. Sold with copied research, and two photographic images of recipient as part of a shooting team at R.A.F. Cranwell.
