Title: Three proof illustrations from Moby Dick Author: Kent, Rockwell Place: Publisher: Date: c.1930 Description: Three small original photo-lithographs on paper. Tipped to matting, within a single frame. Overall 40x29.5 cm (15¾x11¾") Three original photo-lithograph proofs from Rockwell Kent's famed illustrations for the 1930 Lakeside Press edition of Herman Melville's Moby Dick. Hailed by many as the greatest illustrated book of the 20th century. The images here include the tail-piece illustration from Chapter 30, Volume 1, page 191 (a ship at full sail, 5x14 cm); the tail-piece illustration from Chapter 121, Volume 3, page 187 (Stubb or Flask at the rail of the ship in foul weather gear, 7.5x6 cm); the illustration from publisher's colophon in Volume 3 (a Native American in full headdress, leaning on the stump of a tree, a stockade fort in the distance, 8x6.5 cm). Each image is signed by Kent in pencil in the lower margin. Lot Amendments Condition: Not archivally framed, not examined out of frame, appears fine. Item number: 246973
