Each sheet approximately 51x38 cm (20x15¼"). These artifacts were collected during the restoration process and originally sold by Smithsonian Institution in the late 1970's. Includes squares of fabric from: De Havilland D.H. 4. The Airco DH.4 was a British two-seat biplane day bomber of World War I. It was designed by Geoffrey de Havilland for Airco, and was the first British two-seat light day-bomber to have an effective defensive armament. Wright Ex "Vin Fiz". The Vin Fiz Flyer was an early Wright Brothers Model EX pusher biplane that in 1911 became the first aircraft to fly coast-to-coast across the U.S., a journey that took almost three months. Douglas World Cruiser #2. "Chicago." On 6 April 1924, the four expedition aircraft, named Boston, Chicago, New Orleans and Seattle, departed Sand Point, Washington, near Seattle, Washington, Seattle, the lead aircraft, crashed in Alaska on 30 April. The other three aircraft with Chicago assuming the lead, continued west across Asia and Europe. Lot Amendments Condition: Occasional minor chipping and discoloration to fabric samples, occasional bit of edgewear to sheets; overall near fine. Item number: 289823
