Three: Farrier Staff Corporal J. Hull, 1st Life Guards Queen’s South Africa 1899-1902, 3 clasps, Natal, Orange Free State, Transvaal (1223 Far. Staff Cpl., 1st L.G.); King’s South Africa, 2 clasps (S.Cpl.-Far., 1st Life Guards); Army L.S. & G.C., E.VII.R. (F.S.Corpl., 1st Life Gds.) edge bruising and heavily polished, therefore good fine, the second scarce to the regiment (3) Footnote John Hull was born in St Nicholas, Nottingham, and enlisted into the 1st Life Guards on 16 January 1884, aged 21 years, at Windsor, his trade on enlistment given as Cabman. He was appointed Shoeing Smith in May 1885; Corporal Farrier in January 1889, and Staff Corporal Farrier in October 1895. He served in South Africa from 16 September 1899, but stayed behind after the Composite Regiment of Household Cavalry returned to England in November 1900, and served with the Army Veterinary Department. He was discharged from the Army on 31 January 1905, having been awarded the L.S. & G.C. medal in October 1904.
