Includes a manuscript note on linen type paper, which reads "The last letter of/Thomas Jefferson/printed about 100 years ago, and/painted by my grandmother./Pheba Ware/Mrs. Daisy Featherston." The entire border is polychrome painted with wonderful folk art vining floral at sides and top and a scroll flanked by two quill pens and two books. Similar to Plate 68 in "Threads of History." Could find no reference to the printer in any of the major bibliographies on American printers. Undoubtedly an extremely rare printed American patriotic textile. Condition:Margins formerly tacked to frame with soil at same and light bleeding of painted colors, short .5" tear at top central flower, still VG.
