[6], 883; [4], 931 pp. (4to) 27.3x21 cm (10¾x8¼"), period half calf & cloth, morocco spine labels, raised bands, marbled endpapers & edges. First Edition. Issued as Memoires de l'Academie des Sciences de l'Institut Imperial de France, Volumes 28-29. "Of all the entirely algebraic theories of the Moon, the most complete was that of Charles Delaunay who worked within a Hamiltonian framework to generate, for the first time, solutions in the form of pure trigonometric series, devoid of secular terms" - Linton, From Eudoxus to Einstein, page 410; BEA, page 287. There was a third volume issued somewhat later, but these two volumes are complete in themselves. Lot Amendments Condition: Scuffing to leather, joints cracked, spine ends and corners worn; internally very good. Item number: 287912
