THE WEDDING OF HENRY STANLEY AND DOROTHY TENNANT A collection of material relating to the Stanleys' wedding on 12 July 1890, comprising: A set of 3 photographs of 'Mountains of the Moon' mounted on a sheet of card, with typed captions mounted below the images, and a typed explanatory text 'These Photographs are from my very rough and unfinished sketch in modelling wax [...] Enthroned in Silver Moon upon the summit of this Star Mountain, (to illustrate an ancient African legend) are ''Stanley Africanus'' and Dorothy his bride', inscribed below 'To Bula Matari and Dorothy , from Henry S. Wellco[me] , July 12 t h 1890' (spotted and marked, the margins with tears causing small losses). A HUMOROUS WEDDING GIFT FROM STANLEY'S FRIEND THE CELEBRATED PHARMACIST AND PHILANTHROPIST HENRY WELLCOME. Three albums, 2° and 4°, containing tipped-in and loosely-inserted newspaper clippings, photographs, letters and notes, a printed ticket to the wedding service in Westminster Abbey, and other items of ephemera, the majority of the items relating to the wedding and dated 1890, one album with calligraphic title-page 'Newspaper Accounts of the Marriage of Henry M. Stanley with Dorothy Tennant and an Address Presented to H.M. Stanley Esq. at Phoenix Mills, Dartford, Kent, on Tuesday, 21 s t June, 1892' and calligraphic transcription of address on 2 leaves, variously bound in contemporary morocco, half morocco, and cloth (bindings lightly rubbed); together with 4 periodicals: Pall Mall Budget (10 July 1890, no. 1,137); Illustrated London News (12 July 1890, vol. XCVII, no. 2,673); Illustrated London News (19 July 1890, vol. XCVII, no. 2,674); The Graphic (12 July 1890, vol. XLII, no. 1,076), (all with variable light spotting, one lacking wrappers).
