Title: The Violent Hero, Wilderness Heritage and Urban Reality: A Study of the Private Eye in the Novels of Dashiell Hammett, Raymond Chandler and Ross Macdonald Author: Parker, Robert Brown Place: Ann Arbor, MI Publisher: University Microfilms International Date: 1983 (originally 1971) Description: v, [1], 181, [1] pp. (text on recto only). 7¾x6¼, black paper wrappers, paper cover label. "Authorized Facsimile printed by microfilm/xerography." Signed by Robert B. Parker on the front free endpaper. Author's doctoral dissertation study on Hammett, Chandler, and Macdonald, originally written and submitted in 1971 at Boston University for Parker's Ph.D. in literature. It is known that Parker's own Boston private eye character, Spenser, combines Philip Marlowe's morals (Chandler's character) with Lew Archer's social conscience (Macdonald's character). A rare and interesting item originally issued before Parker's first book, The Godwulf Manuscript. This being the 1983 facsimile edition. Lot Amendments Condition: Spine a bit faded, else fine - scarce. Item number: 152011
