(Octavo) 23x14.5 cm (9½x5¾"), the printed self-wrappers serving as the title-page. In custom orange buckram box with black morocco spine label, titled in gilt. Little prospectus for the Union Pacific Railroad, relating its stage of progress, prospects for completion, likely remuneration to investors, etc. The fine woodcut map, "Map of the Union Pacific Railroad and its Connections" (17.5x51.5 cm), shows the central portion of the U.S. from Ohio and Kentucky west to the Pacific Ocean, with the Union Pacific line stretching boldly across the prairies and mountains. As an indication of optimism, the Union Pacific is shown meeting its western rival at the California-Nevada border, hundreds of miles to the west of the eventual junction at Promontory, Utah. The route is also shown running south of Great Salt Lake. Lot Amendments Condition: Self wrappers detached, spine fragile; some light toning; overall very good. Item number: 316290
