Its Construction, Resources, Earnings and Prospects Author: Place: New York Publisher: Press of Wynkoop & Hallenbeck Date: [1867] Description: 8 pp. incl. self-wrappers. With folding woodcut map. (Octavo) 23x14.5 cm (9½x5¾"), the printed self-wrappers serving as the title-page. Little prospectus for the Union Pacific Railroad, relating its stage of progress, prospects for completion, likely remuneration to investors, etc. The fine woodcut map, "Map of the Union Pacific Railroad and its Connections" (17.5x51.5 cm), shows the central portion of the U.S. from Ohio and Kentucky west to the Pacific Ocean, with the Union Pacific line stretching boldly across the prairies and mountains. As an indication of optimism, the Union Pacific is shown meeting its western rival at the California-Nevada border, hundreds of miles to the west of the eventual junction at Promontory, Utah. The route is also shown running south of Great Salt Lake. Provenance: PBA, 7/11/02, 230. Lot Amendments Condition: Wrappers with some soiling, corners chipped and dog-eared, split along spine; stain to lower margin of wrappers and contents, marginal tears to contents; else very good.
