Title: The Tragedy of Coriolanus Author: Shakespeare, William Place: [London] Publisher: Date: 1623 Description: 30 pp. Text in 2 columns, 66 lines plus running headings; woodcut headpiece & initial. (folio) 31x19.5 cm. (12¼x7¾"), modern boards. The first printing of one of Shakespeare's tragedies, from the first folio edition of 1623, and the earliest obtainable printing of this famous play. Shakespeare's First Folio is among the rarest, the most desirable and, to-date, perhaps the most expensive printed work in the English language. The last substantially complete copy to exchange hands sold for $6.5 million. For most collectors and scholars, complete individual plays such as this one offer the only opportunity to own one of the icons of English literature. Lot Amendments Condition: First leaf with ¾x1/8" hole affecting 3 lines, last 12 leaves with marginal chip and a few short tears, top page edges trimmed a bit occasionally affecting a few letters in running heading or the page numbers, some minor staining/soiling, else very good.
