Beschreibung:

Fair/Good (1.5). Cover detached from book, spine stress, chips and splits affecting almost 50% of spine, 1.75" x 1/4" chip to bottom edge of front cover, bottom right corner of front cover chipped, small corner and edge chips to back cover, back cover creased and soiled, dampsoiling to covers, rusty staples with rust migration, two spots of residue to "T" in "THING!," centerfold loose at bottom staple, one page heavily dogeared, small corner chips to a few leaves. Light tan pages. Cover: Steve Ditko Art: Steve Ditko (3 stories), Tony Tallarico, uncredited artist possibly inked by Chic Stone. GPAnalysis: No reported sales in this grade. A 1.8 sold for $140 in September 2020. Great mag crammed with the elfin magic of Ditko. Ditko's black magic cover fronts three stories by the artist, including haunted house thriller "Die Laughing!," pretty clearly swiped from Harvey Kurtzman's "House of Horror" (Haunt of Fear #15, May 1950). Ditko even swipes the main characters' outfits, right down to one college boy's letter sweater and another's turtleneck. Ditko swipes are seldom-seen; perhaps the artist's Ayn Rand obsession, which developed after his '50s Charlton stint, prohibited such pilferings. Anyway, what would Mr. A say? Consignments welcome for PBA's Fall 2022 Comic Book sale. Pre-Code Horror, Golden Age and Silver Age comics, original art, vintage comic-related photos and ephemera sought. Send inquiries to [email protected] . A limited edition of 100 softcover and 6 hardcover catalogues are available. 140 pages, fully illustrated. Fun reference, great keepsake. Softcovers $40, dust-jacketed hardcover with limitation plate $200. To order, contact [email protected] .
