The Rolling Stones A hand-written note in Keith Richards' hand, [n.d. but December, 1963] signed Love from the Stones , addressed to a fan called Wendy, thanking her for her letter and ... all the nice things you said about us... and telling her about their beginnings... The Rolling Stones started playing in May 1962, in London, and pretty awful it sounded too. But they knew what they wanted to play and after about 600 drummers & bass guitarists, they found the ideal pair in Charlie & Bill. They had known Charlie for some time but he was playing with another group [Blues By Five] who could offer more. But seeing that the Stones were playing more his kind of music he left to join them. Keith & Mick have known each other since they were 5 yrs old....They met Brian one night at a party in London and decided to throw their lot with him. They hired a flat in Chelsea (for flat, read slum). And then they rehearsed for months on end and played around the clubs of London...eventually a big man in show-biz [Eric Easton] said, 'I'm going to make you into stars'.... 2pp.; with corresponding envelope addressed in Richards' hand, frankmarked 9 Dec 1963 ; and a page from an autograph book signed in blue ballpoint pen by Mick Jagger, Keith Richards and Bill Wyman and in black ballpoint again by Jagger and Charlie Watts, additionally inscribed by Watts The Rolling Stones -- 4x4¾in. (10.2x12cm.) (2)
