The Maserati Ghibli is one of the most stunning cars ever made, being the first major work of Giorgio Giugiaro who was then with Ghia. Standing only 46 inches (115 cm) high, it looked equally good as a fastback or spyder and its 4.7 litre 'quad cam' V8 delivered a top speed of more than 170 mph (272 kph) and enormous torque, making the Ghibli one of the most flexible GT cars of its era. A Ghibli is both essential to any Maserati collection and an ideal introduction to ownership of exotic machinery. Some 1,149 Ghiblis were made, perhaps a third with the later 4.9-litre ‘SS’ specification engine, and of these a large proportion received the optional automatic gearbox. With a manual gearbox, alloy wheels, power-assisted steering, wooden steering wheel, electric windows and a period radio, the 4.9SS coupé we offer is a well-equipped example. Supplied new in September 1970 via Turin Maserati concessionaire Bordese to a Mr. Masnata of Turin, it is still finished in the original ‘celeste’ metallic light blue with a black interior in leather and cloth. According to the titled vendor, who acquired the car in the early 1980s from prestige Milan dealer Achilli Motors, it now shows 63,174 kms and its condition is described as 'good' in every respect.
