Title: "The Oriental Limited – A Vision Realized" Author: ** Place: [St. Paul, MN] Publisher: Great Northern Railway Co. Date: 1925 Description: Photo-lithographic print, in colors. Shows the Oriental Limited locomotive pulling into a station with people waiting to board; above is a much larger smoky Oriental Limited in a dream-like state; also, a small portrait of James Jerome Hill (1838-1916), the famed founder of the Great Northern Railroad and is known as the Empire Builder due to the economic dominance and the size of the region his company covered. Print approximately 20x23½"; inside frame 23x26½" (overall). Great image of one of the most important North American / transcontinental trains in history. The Oriental Limited, which was the Great Northern Railroad’s flagship train, covering over 1800 miles between the Minnesota Twin Cities and Puget Sound, replacing the Great Northern Flyer. The Oriental fulfilled James Hill’s dream of direct rail-water connections between the Middle West and the ports of the Far East. Less than five years after Hill had driven the G.N. and the Oriental Limited to Seattle, the Klondike Gold Rush began, with Seattle became the chief shipping point for Alaska. Plus other key and important historical events centering around Hill’s dream railroad service. Lot Amendments Condition: A few minor / short wrinkles to print, light wear to frame; else near fine. Item number: 174399
