The fifteenth text volume in Curtis's monumental work on the Indians of North America, which came to number twenty text volumes, each with an accompanying portfolio of large photogravure plates, and took over twenty years to produce. Although 500 sets were produced, only about half of those were bound. The present volume covers Indians of Southern California Shoshoneans, the Luisenos, the Cahuilla, the Dieguenos, Plateau Shoshoneans, the Mono, the Paviotso, and the Washo. This is the issue printed on Van Gelder Zonen Holland paper. Lot Amendments Condition: Binding worn at edges and joints, corners showing, some insect wear to cloth; missing plate facing page 10 "Seatite Vessels from Santa Catalina Island," else clean with just a few plates with mild, offsetting from tissue guards; internally about fine and overall very good.
