The London Packet and Chronicle, And Lloyd's Evening Post, London: Charles Baldwin, August 8, 1828, number 10,297, 2°, 4-pages, describing a "Grand Cricket Match ... between the gentlemen and players of Hampshire, against the gentlemen and players of England, at Lord's," and concluding, "Great as has become the taste for the noble game of cricket of late, we did not anticipate its extension to the fair sex; to our astonishment, however, a match was played in a field near Tunbridge Wells ... between 11 old ladies of Southborough and 11 young ladies of Tunbridge, for three bottles of gin and three pounds of the best gunpowder-tea." With another issue of The London Packet for 15 September 1828 mentioning a Cricket Match at Sheffield. (2)
