The Laughable Game What D'Ye Buy by Professor Punch . England, circa 19th century. Made by Edward Wallis, London. 84 cards divided into 12 sets of 7 cards each set. The sets include occupations and professions of Pastry Cook, Greengrocer, Tailor, Bookseller, Doctor, Ironmonger, Poulterer, Fishmonger, Milliner, Publican, Toyman, and Butcher. Each set contains one color picture illustrating the occupation plus six text cards that relate to the occupation, such as Tailor's Pea-Jacket, French Blouse, and Flannel Night-cap, and Poulterer's Great Goose and Fat Duck, and Toyman's Punch and Judy and Long-eared Donkey. This is an amusing reading game where the reader, designated the conductor, reads aloud the story and, pausing at each blank, nods to one of the players who fills in the blank by reading one of the text cards. Instruction booklet of 11 pages. Wooden box with slide top (warped). Cards in generally fine condition.
