The Late Bruce C Cazel Collection of British Campaign Awards Four: Regimental Sergeant-Major C. F. Napper, South African Army Service Corps, awarded the M.S.M. for East Africa 1914-15 Star (Pte., S.A.S.C. Supplies); British War and Bilingual Victory Medals, M.I.D. oakleaf (S/S.M. S.A.S.C.) B.W.M. with rank corrected; Victory with rank and name corrected; Army Meritorious Service Medal, G.V.R. (S-102 R.S. Mjr., S.A. A.S.C.) good very fine and better (4) Footnote M.S.M. London Gazette 3 June 1919. ‘... in recognition of valuable services rendered in connection with military operations with the Forces in East Africa’. M.I.D. London Gazette 7 March 1918. Charles Frederick Napper was born in Hackney, Middlesex. A Carpenter by occupation, he attested for the South African Service Corps (Supplies) in December 1914. He was discharged on 20 August 1915 after service in German South West Africa with the 3rd Infantry Brigade Train. He re-attested for service in the Union Central African Imperial Service Contingent, Supply Section, on 5 October 1915 and served in the Nyasa-Rhodesia Force Administration Department. Napper was promoted to Sergeant in September 1916 and Warrant Officer Class 1 in October 1917. For his services in East Africa he was mentioned in despatches and awarded the M.S.M. R.S.M. Napper was discharged at his own request on 26 November 1918. With copied service papers and gazette extracts.
