Sold on behalf of The Joan Seeley Pain Relief Memorial Trust, Registered Charity No 278697. www.joanseeleytrust.btck.co.uk/ Kenneth George Jones was born in November 1910. On leaving school he took a job in a garage but his father had other ideas and made him go into 'the print'. On a visit to Wales Ken watched a motorcycle trial and soon joined the local Sidcup & District Motorcycle Club, eventually becoming its Chairman. The Sidcup Club was part of the Brands Hatch Combine and Ken was also Chairman of that organisation from just before the War until just after. Called up for RAF service at the start of the war, he was posted to Boscombe Down to join the team developing what would become known as the 'Pathfinder' system of target marking for bombers. Ken was nearly 40 when he met and married his wife Gladys, Social Secretary of the Sidcup Club, in July 1949. From his early teens Ken had studied photography and this interest lasted until he died. Ken maintained that he wanted his news pictures to be works of art and, whenever possible, composition was his main consideration, resulting in many of his images appearing in various publications including Auto News. In 1955 he joined a small group of enthusiasts that went on to publish the first ever edition of 'Motor Cycle News'. Aside from his motorcycle involvement Ken was active in particular at Brands Hatch from 1950-1966 covering the events pictured in this collection. Ken's health deteriorated in the 1980s and he sadly passed away on 27th February 1987. His wife Gladys is now 94 and still lives in the Sidcup area. The collection offered here today encompasses an historic archive comprising in excess of 450 8" x 6", 7" x 9", and other format monochrome images, a vast majority bearing 'Kenneth G Jones' and/or 'K.G.Jones' Copyright stamps to reverse and many annotated with race details. Taken mainly at Brands Hatch race meetings from 1952 through to 1966, but also including Crystal Palace events. Depicting many racing, sports and touring cars, race drivers, including some candid shots, race scenes, and pit and paddock images at a range of events and meetings at the two circuits including International Races, Formula 2, Formula 3, Kart racing and some Formula 1 race events. Brands Hatch races covered include 1952 500cc Daily Telegraph International Trophy, 1956 Formula 3 and Sports Cars, International Championship Meeting, 1960 International Formula 1 Race (the first truly International Formula 1 race to be held on the newly extended Brands Hatch Circuit), 1961 International Formula 1, Junior and GT event, 1965 Daily Mail Race of Champions, 1966 RAC British Grand Prix, and many others in-between. Race drivers pictured include Grand Prix and motorsport stars Stirling Moss, Colin Chapman, Mike Hawthorn, Jack Brabham, Bruce McLaren, Graham Hill, John Surtees Jim Clark, Dan Gurney, Geoff Duke, Mike Hailwood, Joe Siffert, Jackie Ickx, Jochen Rindt, and other drivers and personalities, with images featuring many racing, sports and touring cars including, BRM, Cooper, Brabham, Lotus, and other teams and marques. Offered together with an assortment of other motorsport photographs, making a combined total of approximately 650 images, with other glass plate negatives, negatives, contact sheets, and other photographic material from The Ken Jones archive, this collection also includes race programmes relating to the events depicted, and programmes for other events. With many photographs archived chronologically and by race event, further information relating to the contents of this collection is available on request.
