Beschreibung:

THE INSECT SUITE LOEWE, Frederick. Autograph manuscript score of "THE INSECT SUITE," for piano. No date, dated by Loewe "1940." 15 pages, comprising 14 pages music and a later cover sheet in Loewe's hand, all in pencil. A working manuscript, with numerous corrections, deleted bars and revisions by the composer. On the back of page 2 of "The Mosquito," is a page of melody and lyrics sketches, possibly relating to "Paint Your Wagon," to judge by its western content ("the prairie's callin' me home"), on the back of pages 3, 4 and 5 are parts of Loewe's piano-vocal score for an unidentified song (partly sung by a character named Charlotte" clearly set in France ("the only queen in all of France is Madame Guillotine"). AN UNPUBLISHED EARLY WORK FOR PIANO BY THE COMPOSER OF "MY FAIR LADY," WITH FOUR PAGES FROM DIRCARDED EARLY BROADWAY SONGS A highly interesting relic of Frederick Loewe's plans for a career as a concert pianist and composer in the concert-hall world, which he reluctantly gave up when he began to enjoy success as a composer for the musical theater in the early 1940s. The composition is written on stray score pages from discarded songs for unidentified Broadway projects. A characteristic suite for piano, the "Insect Suite" consists of two movements entitled "The Spider and the Fly" and "The Mosquito," each movement is neatly titled at the head of the first page. Whether the work as it survives is complete, and whether it was ever performed is not known, but IT REMAINS ENTIRELY UNPUBLISHED. The Insect Suite
