(Folio) 36x29 cm (14¼x11½"), period half calf & marbled boards, spines tooled & lettered in gilt, page edges untrimmed. First Edition, second issue. Magnificent hand-colored aquatint plates from Ackermann’s renowned publishing studio, depicting stained glass windows, mosaics, tombs, monuments and architectural details of Westminster Abbey. The present copy with page edges untrimmed, and in a nice contemporary binding, complete with both half titles and the list of subscribers. This is the second issue, with the first plate in Vol. II marked Pugin delt. (rather than Mackenzie delt.) Abbey, Scenery, 213 & 214; Tooley 2. With the woodcut bookplates of John Carter (1748-1817), English architect and author. Lot Amendments Condition: Some rubbing, edge and joint wear to bindings, Vol. II with spine ends expertly repaired and strengthened; occasional foxing to text leaves, very good or better, the plates superbly colored, a very desirable copy.
